10th Enfield Rendezvous and Poker Run 2018

Enfield Rendezvous and Poker Run: The Biggest Thunder Ride in the Himalayas as they say!

This one is for them Motorcycle enthusiasts especially Royal Enfields!

Bikes fascinate me. Especially the touring motorcycles. I’ve waited 25 years until I bought myself a touring motorcycle, the Royal Enfield Classic 350. Pursuing the biking enthusiasm and interest of what’s and how’s of Enfield, I happen to meet only handful of people with mutual interests and common sentiments; until I came to know about Enfield Rendezvous and Poker Run. This is where I met the community :)

(This blog is more words than pictures because there might be someone somewhere SEARCHING for "them" in everyone they meet)!!  :D  Still managed to write this blog straight after 200kms of an intense, bumpy and tiresome ride because I had to!

Narration behind the launch of Enfield Rendezvous and Poker Run:

Inspired by the Harley Davidson poker run organized by Harley clubs in Australia, a guy named Binod Acharya Chettry in 2007 fancied of commencing similar event in Nepal. When he first shared his dream with Mr. Rabi Thapa (the man behind the Enfield Poker Run event today), he did not buy the idea, given the not well-groomed riding culture and Biking Clubs in Nepal. Unfortunately, Mr. Acharya died of Heart Attack in the year 2008. In his memory, Mr. Thapa decides to pursue his dream and organizes the first Enfield Rendezvous and Poker Run with only 22 people in the year 2007.

The Enfield Rendezvous and Poker run is an event where the Royal Enfield “Bullet Train” of more than 200 bikes start their journey from Kathmandu to Pokhara to celebrate the Nepali new year in style. Riders and representatives from across the globe participate in the Event. The 10th event witnessed the participation from Germany, Japan, France, various parts of India, Denmark and Nepal.

“Poker Run”?

The name “Poker Run” because in the entire ride the participants will be playing poker alongside. While in the run, the participants stop by in five different pitstops and pick the poker card. At the end of the ride, one with the highest poker hand gets awarded the attractive hampers. Besides poker hand, various different categories of prizes and honors including “the oldest biker”, “the best-modified bike”, “the hard-luck” (who had to go through a terrible time or witness some unfortunate situation)  and others are awarded to further stimulate the enthusiasm of the participants. The best part of the event is the after ride party with free drinks, food and snacks followed with the live band and an extravagant five-star accommodation. You can’t ask for more.

The event aims and has been successful in promoting the internal and international tourism and “riding brotherhood culture” over the years in Nepal. As an integral part of the event, a charity ride is being organized where the participants join the organizers to distribute books, stationaries and sports equipment to Janjyoti School at Pokhara.

One word about the experience: Overwhelming!
